Why Another Blog? August 17, 2006
Welcome to Metro Moms, a new blog of moms both young and more "seasoned," from Metro Life Church. Why another blog with so many to browse through with great information written by people who know lots more than we do? The purpose of this blog is to be an extension of our life together as a local church — to encourage one another and to provide a place for moms to share a cup of coffee together when our busy lives allow. What fun to peek into one anothers hearts and days while still in our pajamas or when we’re able to steal a few minutes away from laundry, diapering, or cooking?
And because there’s some really great stuff out there, soon we’ll start recommending other blogs, resources and sites where you can either embark on some meaty study or benefit from fun or helpful information for yourself or your family.
Our contributors will all be ordinary moms — some with babies or toddlers who are hoping for more positive pregnancy tests down the road (or around the corner!) — while others are moms with teens and married children who would faint if one of those tests found itself in our hands. There’s even a Granma among us. But we all share a common heart and vision. Like you, we’re comforted when we know our struggles are common. It’s helpful to be reminded that all our families are really much the same — a group of sinners (some big, others little) living together learning to love, enjoy and forgive one another. So we’ll be honest, not just for your benefit but for our own. We’ve been well taught by godly leaders that it’s important to humble ourselves; to resist the temptation to protect our "supermom" reputations; and to admit when, yes, our children throw temper tantrums, lie, willfully disobey, and are disrespectful. And then how to respond biblically, resisting resentment over the demands of motherhood and training our children with grace and patience. Yet our hearts beat with longing to see them experience a personal relationship with their Savior and to live lives that glorify Him.
This means we are privileged to provide for them a compelling and passionate example of the One who has saved us — the same One who gave us children partly to expose just how much we are still in need of a Savior as we find ourselves intensely enjoying them one minute, and then selfishly sinning against them the next.
So when you have a few minutes, join us! We hope you’ll find encouragement, comfort and hope as we share real life stuff about our mothering journey. We also hope you will laugh. Really laugh.
Sometimes the posts will focus on the younger years while others will target the teen years or beyond. But we’ve learned that whatever season God has placed us in, we can all learn from each other. By tracing His faithfulness through every season of motherhood, we’re both reminded of His past grace and strengthened to trust Him for the future grace that awaits us as we and our children get older.
We’ll end the week with "Friday Favorites" — anything from favorite recipes or cool new cleaning supplies (that really work!), to favorite date night suggestions with our husbands or the things we love most about having a newborn in the house.
And most of the posts won’t be this long.
Let’s get started!
